Last month, the Milligan Men’s Soccer were ranked first in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll. Finishing as runner-up in the NAIA National Championship Game in 2024, this team received eight first-place votes resulting in 464 total points. It is the first time in program history that they have been ranked in the top spot nationally.

“It’s satisfying to finally see that acknowledgement,” said fifth year team captain, Simen Haraldstad. “However, our focus remains on each practice, concentrating on the upcoming game and how we can succeed in that moment.”

The team is not only returning some key upperclassmen from last season, but also bringing in a talented group of newcomers.

“Our team consists of core players from last year, along with many newcomers who are valuable additions to the squad, said Haraldstad. “We understand how much teams want to beat us now, and there are many tough games ahead. I trust my team’s abilities. We don’t fear anyone.”

“It’s a great thing for the team and university to be recognized in this way,” said Head Coach Patrick Sweeny. “but I would rather be ranked number one at the end of the year.”

Just like last season, the Men’s Soccer team is ready to be there and show up on the biggest stage in the postseason.

“We’re going to take things one day at a time,” said Sweeny. “If you work harder than the other team, then your talent will make the difference.”

Milligan’s next game is Wednesday, September 11th at Truett-McConnell starting at 7:30 PM EDT.
