This Tuesday, Milligan’s annual Webb Lecture Series began in Seger Chapel.
The Webb Lecture Series is an annual series named after the late Dr. Henry Webb and his wife Emerald Webb. Webb served as a Bible professor from 1950 until his retirement over 40 years later. Webb also served as a biblical studies area chair at many churches in the area.
The Webb Lecture series is funded by his children and is designed to bring a better understanding of and maintain a connection to the Stone-Campbell Movement.
This year the Webb Lecture speakers are Ethan Magness and his father Dr. Lee Magness. Tuesday’s lecture was Ethan Magness presenting “Believing in Unity: The Story of an Unlikely Merger.”
Ethan Magness is the Senior Minister at First Christian Church in Johnson City. He previously served as the Pastor of Spiritual Formation at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland. He received his Masters of Divinity from Emanuel Christian Seminary and his Bachelors in Mathematics from Swarthmore College.
The Lecture began with a moment of silence and prayer for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and a performance by Milligan’s acapella group, Heritage.
After that, Campus Minister Rich Aubrey introduced Ethan Magness in President Bill Greer’s absence.
Magness’ lecture focused on the beginnings of the Stone-Campbell movement and how it developed over time.
His father will continue the series with “Bible Translation: A Window On The Restoration Movement ” this Thursday at 11 a.m. in Seeger Chapel. The lecture is free and open to the public as well as Milligan students.
