Rich Aubrey is stepping down as Milligan College’s head women’s basketball coach after 27 seasons. He announced the news on March 17.

“Basketball represents a level of connection that I’ll always remember and will always be a part of me.”

Aubrey has the most wins in school history and ranks fifth in the NAIA among the winningest coaches. He won 522 games total, compiling a 59.8 winning percentage. Aubrey won nine regular-season conference championships, three conference tournament titles and made eight trips to the NAIA Women’s National Championship.

Sophomore basketball player Lily Griffith was shocked at the news, but said, “I’m looking ahead to next year with an optimistic view and to ultimately upset a few more teams.”

Aubrey will not be leaving Milligan’s campus entirely. He will be taking on a new role as campus minister with current minister Brad Wallace retiring from the position.

“Everything that happens on this campus can potentially contribute to spiritual formation,” said Aubrey. “It will be a blessing to be a part of that process and to interact with a larger segment of the Milligan community.”

He is excited to start the new role, but said, “I’ll really miss putting my hand in the huddle, that’s one of the greatest privileges of being part of a team.”

Aubrey has given 27 years of service to Milligan, and he represents someone greatly invested in the campus community. “Milligan basketball has given me the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself,” said Aubrey.
