The second half of the spring semester frequently involves hammocks, ultimate frisbee and the beloved, class-canceling tradition of Wonderful Wednesday. Yet, in the midst of a recent move to online classes, Milligan College grows more vacant each week.
Echoes ring across campus in emptied parking lots, while sidewalks are devoid of bustling students. Posters and special event signs no longer hang on the quiet, locked-down campus.
President Bill Greer informed the Milligan community on March 27 at 11:09 a.m. that residence hall check-out appointments are now being made for students who lived on campus this semester. The closing of the campus requires students who live in the residence halls to return sometime after April 15 to move belongings out of their dorm rooms. President Greer’s email stated that all residence hall locks have been changed and that students have received an email further detailing check-out appointments.
This update comes at a time in the semester in which students and faculty have looked forward to the surprise of Wonderful Wednesday, one of the many spring events canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although no official announcement had been made regarding the details of Wonderful Wednesday, the event traditionally occurred on a weekday during the second half of the semester. Last spring marked its fifty-year anniversary and will undoubtedly be missed by all participants this year.
