On April 2, Milligan junior softball pitcher Kassi Butcher was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Butcher earned this award for the week of March 26 after her efforts helped Milligan to achieve a 4-0 record for the week.

“I was super excited and honored to receive my AAC recognition,” Butcher said. “The team and I have been working super hard this season, and to be recognized for that hard work is really rewarding.”

Butcher held a 0.75 earned run average with nine and one-third innings pitched during that week. During this week, she helped Milligan defeat Bryan in the first game when she only allowed one earned run in a four hitter game.

She currently has a season record of 7-4 with an ERA of 2.22. This season, Butcher has pitched six complete games, three shutouts, a combined shutout and two saves in 63 innings pitched. Her records have led her to being ranked fourth in the AAC in ERA this season and fifth in the AAC in total wins.

“I was not expecting to receive this award this week because there are a lot of talented pitchers in our conference, so every week you never know who could win,” Butcher said. “This recognition is a goal that I have been waiting to obtain since my freshman year.”

Her outstanding numbers for the season are motivating her to finish out this season strong. She hopes that the team will come together and qualify for the World Series.

Head coach Wes Holly was overjoyed to learn that his own player received the weekly AAC honor, but he was not surprised that Butcher was the one to receive it.

“Kassi is very deserving of this award because she had a great week in the circle for us,” Holly said. “I was not surprised to learn she had won because I submitted her stats for the week, and she was among the top pitchers in the conference for the week.”

The Lady Buffs currently sit in first place in the AAC softball standings as they head into the last games of the season.
