Milligan College and Emmanuel Christian Seminary hosted its first Stone-Campbell Conference, which lasted April 6-7.

Stone-Campbell Journal is an annual conference for scholars and students alike to take part of and listen to various speakers in an academic setting. The theme for the 17th annual conference was “Theology of Others: Judaism, Islam, and ‘None-of-the-Aboves.’”

According to Dr. Jeff Miller, Vera Britton chair of Bible and professor of Bible at Milligan College and Emmanuel Seminary, about 250 people attended the conference, mostly professors and graduate students, but some ministers and Milligan undergraduate students also attended.

Some of the featured speakers were: Ellen Charry, Margaret W. Harmon professor of theology from Princeton Theological Seminary; Richard Knopp, professor of philosophy and Christian apologetics from Lincoln Christian University; and Evertt Huffard, dean from Harding School of Theology, as well as many other speakers.

Female scholars who also participated in the conference hosted a lunch event open to the public in the Milligan College cafeteria featuring Charry. Along with this, there was the specific topic of Biblical Teaching on Women, focused specifically on sexual abuse and the church’s response.

Praise Gichuru, a senior business major, attended the session titled ‘“Me Too,’ Feminist Theology, and the Church,” led by Kathy Pulley from Missouri State University, and said of the session, “I appreciate the fact that within the Christian church movement there is a space created to talk about ways the abuse of power often hurts.”
