Administration is now forcing Village residents to shower in the Wellness Center after too many complaints of not having hot water in their suites. The Village residents are often without hot water and so are now being forced to shower somewhere different.

Each time a Village resident wants to shower, they no longer have the luxury of stepping into their adjoining bathroom to do so. They now have to gather all of their shower supplies, clothes, towels and washcloths and take the long walk, rain or shine, over to the Wellness Center.

But that’s not the worst part about the experience. Due to the crazy weather that has been occuring lately, some residents have to walk back and forth in the snow. This not only makes the long walk worse, but it also increases the risk of the residents getting sick.

“I now have to put on my snow boots just to go take a shower, and that is ridiculous,” junior Megan Pietrowski said. “Plus, I’m always getting sick and I know it’s because I have to walk back and forth with wet hair after I shower.”

The Village residents are also limited to the times they can shower in the Wellness Center. Since the Wellness Center doesn’t open until 7 a.m., it is very difficult for students to shower before their 8 a.m. classes. The Wellness Center closes at 10 p.m., so the students are also required to shower by this time or they will have to go without for the day. Many students would prefer to shower later than the required times, so their showertime freedoms are being stripped.

The residents have repeatedly sent in maintenance requests about the hot water situation but to no avail; the situation still has not been fixed. The residents plan on continuing to send in the requests until the hot water problem is resolved.

“I can’t believe it’s taken this long to fix the hot water issue,” Pietrowski said. “I am paying a lot of money to go here and my hot water doesn’t work half the time.”
