Milligan students were submerged in a high-energy, culturally diverse experience at a Latin American Festival Friday evening in lower Seeger, hosted by Multicultural Affairs (MCA).

Students were encouraged to engage in and get a taste of Latin culture by taking Latin dance lessons led by pairs of students and eating authentic, one-dollar tacos cooked by Tortilleria Familiar “El Arriero”. Mexican hot chocolate and candy were also available for students to taste.

Throughout the evening, pairs of students from the Spanish Club took turns teaching traditional dances such as salsa, bachata, merengue and cumbia. Lessons lasted about one hour and the rest of the evening was spent practicing the dances that the students had learned.

“At first I was nervous, but the instructions were easy and it was quite fun,” said senior Konnor Donahue, who participated in the dance lessons. “I’m really glad I did it.”

MCA President Victoria Rivera explained that the purpose of the campus organization is to serve as an outlet for students to share diversity. The event brought this out by “sharing bits of Latin American culture with the Milligan community.”

“Overall, I’ve gotten really positive feedback from those who came,” said Rivera. “People really got into the dance lessons which was fun to see.”
