Homecoming was a weekend for past and future Milligan College graduates to gather and celebrate 150 years of the school that has impacted many lives in so many ways. While some students congregated to spend time with each other or to hear speakers, there was a large group of both current students and alumni that gathered to celebrate Milligan’s history in the form of sports.

Saturday morning started out with the Buffalo 5K run at 8 a.m., where Milligan Alum and current head swim coach, Kelly Essler, took first place. The run started at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse and wrapped all the way around campus. People of all ages participated in the race and came together at the finish line to get to know one another and their history at Milligan. The morning went on as the student vs. alumni flag football game started at 9:30 a.m. on the practice field at Anglin field, followed by a women’s alumni soccer game at 3 p.m. on the competition field.

After each homecoming game, current students and alumni were able to gather and enjoy hot chocolate and the chilly, fall Saturday together, celebrating the growth of Milligan College.

“It was fun to be able to get together with alumni to celebrate the school that means so much to all of us,” said freshman Gerald Moore, men’s volleyball player. “It was even better that we got to do that through sports.”

The sports of homecoming weekend concluded in the evening with the student vs. alumni women’s basketball game that started at 6 p.m., which was followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m., both taking place at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
