Milligan Musical Theatre brought Louisa May Alcott’s classic story to life with Little Women: The Broadway Musical from March 27-30 at the McGlothlin Street Theatre in the Gregory Center. The production, which ran about three hours with a 15-minute intermission, featured 20 musical numbers performed with a live orchestra.

Each performance began at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. The set design and props recreated 19th-century New England, while period-specific costumes, including ball gowns, contributed to the production’s historical atmosphere.

Nearly full houses were reported throughout the show’s run. Tickets were priced at $12, drawing audiences from both within and outside the Milligan community. Senior musical theatre major Anna Shelton played Jo March.

“There was never a moment when I wasn’t smiling from ear to ear, whether at rehearsal or during the actual run,” Shelton said. “Jo March was both a challenge and a joy to get to know because she and I share so many similarities. The cast and crew quickly became a family of ‘26, for all, forever.’”

Freshman musical theatre major Sallie Hatfield portrayed Meg March.

“Little Women is the first show where I’ve performed in the Gregory Theater,” Hatfield said. “Everyone in the cast was so kind and supportive, which made rehearsals a lot of fun. This has been one of my favorite shows I’ve ever done!”

Freshman musical theatre and worship leadership major Irie Manning played Amy March.

“From auditions to callbacks to actually working with the cast and growing with everyone, we genuinely became a family,” Manning said. “All of the cast agreed that this group was cast perfectly. By far, this has been my best theater experience, and I will miss this cast greatly.”
