In an exciting blend of tradition and technology, Seeger Chapel has unveiled a collection of new updates that seek to improve the worship experience, which include motorized window blinds, a new video screen, cameras, and a curtain for the chapel’s backdrop. The money for this project came from a donor that worked with President Bill Greer, whose dream was for the updates to benefit students.

“That’s the focus of this whole thing,” said Director of Student Success Chase McGlamery, “the student experience and making it better.”

One of the most important additions to Seeger that were made was the installation of the automated blinds over the windows, which will help with special events and night chapels. They also make the stained glass windows more visible from the outside.

Another big upgrade is a new 10 x 16 foot video screen with 2.8 million pixels, with a new sound system built-in to improve visual and auditory experiences.

Also new to Seeger is a whole HD recording video system, which came with motorized cameras in three different locations for better recording of services and events. Sessions of Chapel can now be recorded for other students and alumni to watch, which can in turn be used for student portfolios and additional learning.

Lastly, a black curtain was installed as a backdrop to the stage, adding to the more modern initiative of the Seeger upgrades. The curtain can be drawn to display the marble wall however, which will be beneficial for a more traditional atmosphere.

The updates allow for a more versatile worship experience that can be flexible for any group using the chapel. They offer new ways to better train and prepare students interested in ministry for working in any type of church, modern or traditional, which is evident in the growth of the ministry major this year.

“Compared to years past, there is already way more student involvement in ministry this year”

said Interim Campus Minister Brealle Davis

The updates began over summer break and took almost four months to complete. The entire project was completed just in time for the new semester, a couple of days before classes started.
