As we say farewell to another semester at Milligan, the Stampede wanted to dedicate its final post of the year to reflect on the work done by our staff reporters. On behalf of the Stampede, we wish you a Merry Christmas and we’ll see you next year.

Thank you,

Grace Teater – Editor in Chief

As I’ve watched students pack for the holidays these past few days, I find it hard to believe my first semester at Milligan has come to an end. At the start of the semester I wanted to find extracurriculars where I could meet people who I shared common interests with. I’m sure other freshmen did as well. I ended up joining the Women’s chorale and the Stampede, both turned out to be incredible growth opportunities for me. Writing in Stampede allowed me to branch out as I attended multiple school events in order to write about them. My favorite part of this semester was the print edition we released for homecoming week. Having my stories in print and seeing students and faculty around campus reading them, made me grateful for having joined. I’ve grown in many aspects this semester, & am excited to see what more will come this coming semester.

This semester was interesting in many ways. Being a senior and realizing that this was my last year, I wanted to prioritize spending quality time with my friends. From late CookOut runs to watching sporting events and rooting on the Buffs, I am glad that I have a community here at Milligan. The holidays make leaving for break bittersweet, but I know that my friends and the community here at Milligan are here to stay when I come back. The holidays also help me self-reflect with the peace that comes from no homework, tests, quizzes, and assignments. From taking challenging classes and balancing my academics as a student athlete, I am thankful for the people in my life that have pushed me to be where I am at today. Overall, this semester was one to remember and I can’t wait to see everyone after break!

As this year comes to an end, I am pleased to recognize I have finished my first semester as a Staff Reporter in the Stampede. In my short time while being a part of the Stampede, it has been one of the most pleasant things about my freshman year so far. My fellow Stampede members have been some of the nicest people I’ve met on campus and I have learned so much from our leaders Grace and Professor Dalhman. I’ve enjoyed writing the different stories and all the people that those stories have allowed me to meet. I have to admit learning to write under specific deadlines and trying to land interviews was never easy, but it’s all a part of the process. I’m looking forward to helping the Stampede grow next semester.

As I reflect back on this semester, I am thankful for the opportunities that I’ve had to further my interests and passions for Journalism and Political Science. Being able to attend TISL (Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature) and represent Milligan was very rewarding. Writing a couple stories for the Johnson City Press is also a highlight of my semester. This was really helpful in crafting my skill as a journalist. As a staff reporter for The Stampede, I have enjoyed writing stories that have helped me become a better reporter and writer. If I had to pick a semester where I have grown the most both as a student and an individual, I’d have to say this past one would be it.

As a senior majoring in communications and minoring in journalism, the Milligan Stampede has been a platform for me to gain experience while also telling meaningful stories. I first participated in the Stampede in 2016, writing film reviews. With this, my final semester, I wrapped up my time doing the same thing. It has been a privilege to work with so many different students over the years. This semester was a blast, and I hope my work has influenced or even inspired someone to become involved with the Stampede in the future.

Brandon Smith – Staff Reporter

During my time on the Stampede this semester, I have been nothing but grateful. I have been able to expand my skills by being the webmaster. Spending my time getting to share everyone else’s stories allows me to use my skill set and share their work. I am very excited to return home to Ohio for the holidays, but will miss being on campus with my friends. My fall semester of senior year has been memorable and I cannot wait to return in the spring!
