Thrifting on campus and for a good cause? It’s the ideal combination for a chilly morning at Milligan. Students shopped in Lower Seeger on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the pop-up thrift shop Threads; Hosted by International Justice Mission (IJM).

Seniors Olivia Brokaw and Christina Triplet are part of IJM and ran the shop, sharing a bit about the purpose of setting up Threads.

“The Fashion industry is really big on fast fashion and unethical making of clothes,” Brokaw said. “Threads help fight that because you’re reusing clothes instead of buying new clothes, and it’s more sustainable.”

Brokaw and Triplet explained how a large part of modern slavery is the exploitation of labor specifically in third-world countries.

“IJM is working against human trafficking and other crimes against people living in poverty,” Brokaw added, “We held this event last year and everyone enjoyed it. We thought it would be a great event to hold again.”
All funds collected through Threads were put into supporting IJM’s mission. To donate, visit www.ijm.org
