Senior art major Lauren Petty’s art exhibition, “Surrounded,” will premiere on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Derthick Hall art gallery. Her show follows the theme of important people in her life that have continued to influence her faith.

“The majority of the works are portraits of my female friends and mentors, done in acrylic paint,” said Petty. “I will also have paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, personal pieces of writing, and even some macrame on display.”

Petty has drawn inspiration from pop art, expressionist portraits, surrealism, and several other movements. Throughout this creative process, she has drawn inspiration from contemporary artists such as Loui Jover, Michael Vincent Manalo, TJAerby, and Jim Warren

“People should be expecting to see lots of bright colors and a variety of different influences,” she said. “ I know art is my escape and I hope at least for a little while, people can get lost in my work and find something relatable in it.”

Every year Milligan provides a space for senior art majors to display their work. Students often create work specifically for their exhibition in their Directed Studies class. The majority of Petty’s work has been completed within the last year.

“Not only does it take countless hours to create the pieces but also preparing the space and figuring out how to best display the works,” she said. “I am extremely excited to see everything together and in one space.”

Petty’s senior art exhibition will be on display from Nov. 13-22.
