The Academic Affairs Committee met on Thursday, October 27 with updates on the current state of Milligan’s academic programs, along with new faculty and staff changes.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, Garland Young, officiated the meeting. He began with an introduction of new faculty members.

“This year has been full of faculty searches,” he said. “13 new faculty members will be coming to Milligan this fall and in January. We are thankful and excited to have them.”

Faculty searches for Spanish, English, Humanities, History, and Cybersecurity are still ongoing. In addition to new hires, Young noted other faculty and staff changes for Milligan. This includes:

  • Megan Roberts for Registrar’s Office Manager
  • Rich Aubrey for interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean
  • Theresa Garbe for Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, and SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison
  • Dr. Tim Dillon retiring in May
  • Dr. Patrick Care retiring in December
  • Dr. Garland Young retiring in December

Milligan has also made accreditation achievements for several academic programs. This includes:

  • Physician Assistant Program has achieved full accreditation
  • Engineering Program has achieved full accreditation
  • OT program has been reaccredited for seven years
  • The Business Program successfully followed up on its accreditation received two years ago.

Towards the end of the meeting, Young stated Milligan currently has too many under-enrolled courses.

“There’s a lot of ways in which we need to increase the efficiency of the way we offer our courses in the programs we have,” he said.

To minimize this issue, Young pointed to a revision of Milligan’s general education curriculum that would be more compelling for prospective students. Further discussion and negotiations are taking place amongst all faculty.

Young finished the meeting with announcements of new programs at Milligan. This includes Criminology and Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, Master of Arts, and Coaching and Sports Management.
