The Milligan Men’s and Women’s swim teams competed at the King Invitational this weekend in their season opener, with several of the Buffs making improvements on time and setting new personal records for the program.

In the men’s division, freshman Peter Gilbert set a program record for the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:25.27, which helped the team rack up points early in the events.

Other standout swimmers included freshman Jack Allen, Caleb Fry, and junior Stephen Gilbert. The trio showed strength in times to help secure first overall for the men’s division, with a finishing score of 1056.5 points.

In the women’s division, junior Gabby MacPherson led the way by placing first in the 100 fly, while also placing in the top five for several other events.

Several other Buffs placed in the top five in events, including freshman Sammy MacPherson, Apple Burton, and junior Kaylee Williams.

The women’s division finished in second place overall at the end of the King Invitational with a total of 956 points. Both divisions prepare for their next matchup away at Carson-Newman on October 15, 2022.
