The Milligan Women’s Volleyball team traveled to Henderson, Tennessee to participate in the Freed-Hardeman’s Labor Day Tournament this weekend.

On Friday, the team faced two devastating defeats against Blue Mountain College (3-0) and Faulkner University (3-1).

With those two defeats, the team, unfortunately, developed a three-game losing streak. However, the second day of the tournament proved to be a positive change, as our lady buffs ended their losing streak. Facing Tougaloo College and Fisk University, the Buffs managed to sweep both teams (3-0) for two victories in the tournament.

Ella Maiden, a sophomore and middle blocker for the team is optimistic about potential growth for the rest of the season.

“We should have started the weekend stronger,” she said.

“But still, this weekend was good for us because we learned different things both days.”

According to Ella, the team’s strong defense made all the difference on the second day of the tournament.

“We gained more momentum,” she said. “It helped us play together as a unit.”

The team is looking to continue this momentum in their next conference game at Bluefield University this Thursday, September 8.
