Milligan’s women’s tennis team opened their season against Brenau University on Saturday afternoon. 

Freshman Macy Kennedy took home a win, scoring a 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. Sophomore Kylie Enarson also took victory in the third singles, scoring 6-4, 6-1.

Kaitlin Barret scored 4-6, 2-6 at first singles, falling to Juana Zambrano of Brenau. Makenna Peterson who played at sixth singles also fell to Brenau, scoring 4-6, 3-6 to Sally Brannon.

Brenau took victory in all three doubles. Hannah Nelson and Karson Light had the closest double match, scoring a 4-6 defeat. 

“It was a hard-fought match, and even though we came up short as a team I feel as though we played well,” said Nelson. “Looking to the rest of the season, I feel very hopeful. We have a great team of girls this year with incredible chemistry.”

Peterson said she also looks forward to the upcoming season. 

 “I think we’re all looking forward to our tournament over spring break in Hilton Head, SC because last year it got canceled due to covid,” she said. “Overall, I think we’re all just super excited for the upcoming season and what it brings.” 

Milligan women’s tennis will play against  UVA-Wise at Lincoln Memorial University next Saturday.
