The Men’s volleyball team faced off against Western Carolina Club (WCC) Sunday night, falling 0-3. This loss leaves them with a record of 1-5.

The Buffs put up a good fight against WCC in the first set, ending 20-25. However, they lost momentum in the second set, eventually falling 14-25. They continued to put up a fight, but the Buffs’ 20-25 loss of the third set finished off the difficult match.

Junior Jeston Mason rises above two defenders to score a spike.

Junior Jeston Mason gave his thoughts on the game.

“We came out of last game with a really big win over a team that was weaker than us. We knew [this] would be a much different game, but we were just trying to keep that energy going into this game,” he said. “We’re definitely going to be working on service defense. That was a main source of trouble as well as serving in general. I think our biggest problem is we’re not keeping the energy. We get in a slump and we can’t figure out how to get out of it.”

Co-head coach Nathan Gibson also commented on the team’s goals.

“We want to control all that we can on our side of the net with ball control, offense and defense. Especially in the early season, we’re less worried about strategy in terms of the other team, but focusing on what we can control and being the best version of ourselves,” he said. “There are some technical things we can improve on. In the second set, mentally we had some lapses so there’s the X’s and O’s in practice that you can always get better on.”

The men’s volleyball team will be facing off against Midway at home on Feb. 6.
