Fall has arrived, and what better way to celebrate than to curl up with a good book in hand? Fortunately, this semester, Milligan has begun it’s new Welshimer Book Club, open to any faculty, staff, and students.

The Welshimer Book Club meets about once a month depending on the length of each book. This month, on Oct. 13, the book club will be discussing “March, Book 1”, which is a graphic memoir by Andrew Aydin and John Lewis about the Civil Rights movement.

Mary Jackson, who is Milligan’s research and instruction librarian will be leading the discussions.

“I have a few questions prepared, but will go wherever the discussion leads us,” said Jackson.

Milligan’s librarians picked this semester’s books, and intended to focus on shorter works that are still engaging yet a quick read. Jackson hopes to have book club members help with selections in the future.November’s book is “Interior Chinatown” by Charles Yu, which is a novel written in the style of a screenplay. This book is also a fast read. The book club will meet on Nov. 10 for discussion.

“I would like to try a lot of different genres including children’s, young adult, graphic novels, poetry, etc,” said Jackson.

For those interested in joining Milligan’s new book club, there are multiple copies of the book club books available in the library that students can borrow.

“We would love to have students join us. The conversation is always better when we have different voices contributing to the discussion,” said Jackson.
