Milligan students were able to enjoy a much needed break from school with a long weekend extending from Oct. 7-11. Students got to spend this time off in various ways.
While many students get the chance to return home and relax, others have extracurricular activities or other circumstances that prevent them from making the trip home.
Some student athletes competing in the fall do not get to enjoy a true break as their time is still taken up by their sports. Many teams use this time to get in extra practice and fine tune skills before upcoming competitions.
“I’ve gotten used to the fact of not getting real breaks unless it’s around Christmas,” said senior member of the swim team, Elijah Manship, “but not having class is nice so I can appreciate that.”
Other students find the brevity of fall break to be a struggle as they would spend more time traveling than resting.
“I would’ve liked to get at least a week off to travel somewhere,” said Joseph Reese, a junior from Nashville, Tenn.
Students like Reese, who live farther away, usually wait for longer school breaks, like Christmas, to visit their families and friends at home.
Some students also choose to not travel during the break, instead opting to enjoy what the local area has to offer.
“I decided to stay at Milligan over fall break, relaxing and visiting local friends,” said Katherine Eldridge, a junior from Orleans, Ind.
Regardless of if students spent their break competing, traveling or on campus, the long weekend provided a great opportunity for students to catch up on classwork and take some time to rest.
