Milligan kicked off its annual TWIRP week on Sept 12. TWIRP (The Woman Is Required to Pay) is a week-long event that consists of various activities that take place both on and off campus. Typically, TWIRP week occurs early in the school year, and includes traditions such as the Sadie Hawkins dance and Screen on the Green.

The week began with free ice cream sundaes in the student center on Sunday. The following evening consisted of a night of bowling at Holiday Lanes in Johnson City.

“Bowling was my personal favorite,” said freshman Brooke Anderson. “I think it’s great to be able to get off-campus with your friends and have fun.”

Anderson also reminds us of the ladies’s roles during the eventful week.

“I think it’s important to break down gender roles and give us ladies a challenge,” said Anderson. “Plus it simply allows students to get out in the Milligan community and get to know each other.”

Brealle Davis, director of campus activities also comments that TWIRP is a great opportunity to have fun experiences with new people.

“Students are encouraged to meet new people and foster new connections,” said Davis.

Tuesday night, students were invited to skate at the Johnson City family skate center. Thursday followed with the traditional Screen on the Green event that showcased the movie “Clueless.”

“Twirp is a fun way to take a breather from your overwhelming school work for an hour or two,” said sophomore Raquel Aguilera. “Movie night was my favorite, a night of relaxation is definitely needed.”

TWIRP week concluded with the Sadie Hawkins dance on Friday. Students could dress as casually or as fancy as they wanted.

If you’re already missing the fun from TWIRP week, don’t worry, it’ll be back next year! In the meantime, be sure to visit the Milligan Today page to stay updated on events and activities happening on campus.
