The Milligan Women’s Volleyball team played four games in their Milligan Mountain Madness tournament on August 27-28, ending with one win and three losses.

This is the 13th annual Milligan Mountain Madness tournament, and Fisk University, University of Tennessee Southern, University of the Cumberlands, and Blue Mountain College make up this year’s competition. The Buffs beat Fisk University 3-0, but lost 3-0 to both UT Southern and UC and 3-1 to BMC.

Junior Paxton Adkins walked away from the tournament leading Milligan in digs for all four games. When asked how the team survived so many games in a short amount of time, she said, “It can definitely push your mental and physical endurance, but I think that the amount of play as well as the level of play is what we need to boost us into conference competition”.

Carley Gregory, a senior on the team, believes their toughest opponent was UT Southern, and that motivation was at an all time high for that game.

“We had a very large crowd there cheering us on and we wanted to not only perform for ourselves, our coaches, and our program, but also those that came to support us,” Gregory said.

After playing two tournaments in the past two weeks, the Lady Buffs have time to recuperate and make improvements before their next match on September 6 at Emory & Henry.

In other Milligan Athletics news, Men’s soccer won both of their games this week, winning their season opener against Middle Georgia State 3-1 on Tuesday and their second game against WVU Tech 2-0 on Saturday.

Women’s soccer also had a successful Saturday, winning their season opener against Warren Wilson College 5-0.
