Milligan Men’s Soccer beat No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett College 3-2 in the opening round of the NAIA Nationals Tournament on Thursday.

The Buffs had a rough start, with Georgia Gwinnett leading 1-0 at halftime, but they were quick to get on the board in the second half. Sophomore Odin Solheim tied up the game in the 52nd minute after a corner kick from freshman Victor Castel skimmed the head of sophomore Luke Bennett.

Milligan took the lead just seven minutes later with a goal from Castel. The Grizzlies fought hard to stay in the game though, forcing the match into overtime with a goal in the 77th minute.

However, the Buffs were quick to collect the golden goal. Solheim secured the win just three minutes into overtime with a rocket from roughly 20 yards out.

Up next, Milligan will face St. Thomas University on Saturday in the next round of the national tournament.
