This year’s undergraduate research conference calls for papers focusing on the theme “towards healing.” Undergraduate research projects play a significant role across many disciplines at Milligan.

The RISE Above research conference began in 2013 as a way to display and promote undergraduate research.

Each year faculty members from a variety of academic areas select a theme for the conference. “The theme for this year’s conference was selected because our local, national and global community has faced many serious challenges” stated Dr. Joy Drinnon, Director of Undergraduate Research. “The global pandemic has killed millions around the world and left families heartbroken and physically weakened. We want to give attention to the importance of healing in all its forms; physical, emotionally, relationally, economically, and spiritually.

In addition to selecting a relevant theme each year, the faculty members select a relevant Bible verse to underscore the year’s theme “The verse we selected to reflect this theme is Psalm 147:3 “God heals the brokenhearted and bandages the wounds,”” stated Drinnon.

Last year’s conference, with 25 presentations, was forced to be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s research conference will take place on April 15th, with both virtual and in-person participation, which will conclude with a faculty presentation by Dr. Kellie Brown on her recent book, “The Sound of Hope: Holocaust Music as an Agent of Resistance, Resiliency, and Reconciliation.”
