The Milligan tennis team opened their 2020-2021 season with success this weekend. The men easily won their competition against Wise University, finishing with a score of 7-0, and returned the next day to gain competition experience against Tusculum University. The women pulled out a narrow win against WIse to finish in 4-3. 

Milligan’s men swept the doubles, scoring 6-1, 6-1, and 6-4 with Senior Mason Grear and Junior Carter Rigsby combining talent to win in the No. 1 doubles spot. Jose Giler, a sophmore, won 6-2 and 7-5 for No. 1 singles. 

Senior Marlaina Peterson assured the win for the Milligan women, scoring 6-2, 6-2 from behind to in No. 5 singles. The men suffered a 6-1 loss against Tusculum for their second competition of the season. Grear and Rigsby once again pulled out a win in the doubles competition, defeating Tusculum 6-3. Senior Charlie Moseley won Milligan their only singles victory with a score of 7-6, 6-1 against Louis Tomas. 

Milligan will compete at home once again next Saturday-Sunday against Mars Hill and Lee.
