Milligan Baseball split the double header against USC Beaufort in their first game in nine months. After ending the 2019-20 season with a win-loss record of 14-8, this is  the best start in over a decade.

The team played a double header on Jan. 30. The Buffs lead 1-0 heading into the seventh inning. USC Beaufort tied up at the bottom of the seventh but Milligan sophomore Anthony Guzman hit a solo home run bringing the final score to 2-1.

Brandon Marella, freshman, started for Milligan in game 2. He pitched a perfect game with five strikeouts in three innings before leaving the field with an injury.

“He’s fine, he just got a little banged up with a collision at first base while running,” says teammate Andrei Beal.

Deep in the sixth  inning Milligan had a chance to score with bases loaded, but they  failed to capitalize with a groundout and popout leading to their first loss of the year, with the final score of 4-0.

The team will continue their season in the Clash of Conferences tournament set to take place at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, Tenn. on Friday and Saturday. Milligan will play Friday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
