Milligan University’s men’s soccer team played exceptionally well despite two weeks of quarantine.
Despite only having a few days of practice to prepare for Montreat College the Buffs came out on top with a 6-0 win.
The men’s soccer team hadn’t played a game since Oct. 21.
Goalkeeper, Jan Kuepper, explained, “After the second practice, everyone just felt good. We didn’t lose any of our strength and conditioning during quarantine and we felt like we were ready to play.”
With several games being postponed and after two weeks of confinement the Buffs were excited to finally step on the field.
“To be able to kick the ball again and be with our teammates it was really exciting and practicing was always so much fun,” said Kuepper. “It was almost better after the quarantine than before the quarantine because no one could wait to finally play soccer again.”
Several players contributed to their win over Montreat. Odin Solheim, Victor Castel, Alex Frances and Jett Carter each had one goal a piece for the Buffs. Leading the team was Inaki Moreno with two goals.
“The highlight was the score 6-0,” said Keupper. “Everyone, each of the players, the coaching staff, and any support we had, can be really proud that we had such a performance after the quarantine.”
Before quarantine the Buffs were ranked number four in the conference, but have goals to keep climbing.
“We have the potential to perform better than the top four,” mentioned Keupper. “Our coach said if we keep the mentality up and if we keep performing like this we can aim for top three and if everything works in our favor why not aim for top two.”
The buffs host their last home game against Reinhardt College on Sunday at 4 p.m.
“Everyone would be super satisfied with top two or three and I think that’s a really good way to represent Milligan University in 2020,” Kuepper said. “That’s a statement in 2020 that people need… something positive for a very difficult time.”
