During the week of Oct. 19 – 23, Milligan University’s Student Government Association will be sponsoring events for students on campus. Due to COVID-19 precautions, there will not be a traditional homecoming celebration this year, so SGA hopes these events help students get into the homecoming spirit.
SGA Vice President Alex Reynoso said, “I believe that because of COVID students are looking for more on campus events to attend and these are great events to be in community with each other.”
All events are solely led by students. Each class in SGA is in charge of hosting their own events. The executive team, senior class, and junior class are hosting their own specific events; The freshman and sophomore classes collaborated for their event.
The first event of the week, hosted by the executive team, is Apple Fest. This event will take place on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. on the porch of Hart Hall. At this event, students can enjoy food, community, and lots of apples!
The second event of the week is a Cornhole Tournament hosted by the junior class. This event will take place on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Mary Sword Commons Lawn. Students can enter in teams of two, and the winning team gets to take home a prize. If you have questions about the tournament, an email will be sent to all students providing details on how to enter.
The senior class will be hosting the Flannels, Food, and Canvases. Oh My! event. This will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. on the Village Lawn. Students should look forward to another night of food and fellowship.
The final event of the week is Pumpkin Painting and S’mores, hosted by the freshman and sophomore classes. It will take place Friday at 6 p.m. on Pardee Lawn.
The members of SGA are looking forward to hosting these events. Hannah Nelson, female junior class representative and member of the student relations committee, said “SGA hopes these events provide some normalcy for students on campus.” Nelson continued, “I am excited about all we have planned. I think we are definitely channeling the homecoming spirit.”
While attending these events, wear a mask, maintain social distancing, and follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines. Also, keep an eye on the SGA’s social media pages for posts and updates about upcoming events.
