On Monday, Milligan University’s Student Government Association (SGA) announced their new student lead initiative titled “The Refuge” in a press release.
The initiative was pitched by SGA Treasurer and Advisor for Student Relations Chase McGlamery and SGA President Dalton Shell. The Refuge is a collaborative effort between Milligan SGA and Milligan’s Campus Ministry.
The Refuge will be a weekly devotional series led by students, faculty, staff and alumni. The series “focuses on finding a place of refuge during these difficult times” according to the press release from SGA. “The Refuge will address a wide array of topics, such as dealing with fear, doubt, anxiety, loneliness and stress; while finding a refuge,” said McGlamery.
Shell and McGlamery spoke about some of the finer details and when asked how the idea came to the two, Shell answered “The idea came from a recognition that churches, bible studies, and other small groups wouldn’t be able to meet as much as they had in years in the past. After a particularly rough summer, I began to equate COVID-19 to a raging storm. The one thing that people look for in a terrible storm is refuge. In our personal lives, Christ is that refuge.”
Shell said “We have a few speakers lined up, but I’ll let those be a surprise. One of our thoughts in the planning process, was that this would be a great opportunity for senior ministry majors. We’re hoping that a lot of those students will participate, as well as other types of people from across the Milligan Community!” when asked who the first speakers would be.
The Refuge will kick off next week and will be available to students on the SGA’s social media platforms as well as their YouTube channel. Please contact Campus Minister Rich Aubrey for more information.
