Milligan University has taken significant measures on how to accurately report and manage COVID-19 cases.

Currently Milligan is utilizing a web-based software, Ascend. This software aims to protect,  track and defend against potential positive COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Lee Harriosn, vice president for marketing and enrollment management, and part of the covid planning team stated, “Ascend helps in several ways. First, it helps remind everyone to closely monitor their own health every day for COVID symptoms and prevent spreading possible infection.”

The Ascend App clears Senior Cali Weddle to be on campus for the day.

Milligan requires students and faculty members to complete their health screening before stepping on campus or out of their dorms that day.

“Second, the software alerts Milligan Health Services of individuals with potential risk factors and enables them to more quickly follow up with those individuals to determine if testing or quarantine is needed,” said Harrison.

Those failing to meet any screening standards are not permitted to enter any campus facilities.

“And finally, the software provides the Response Team the real-time information they need to assess the risk of virus spread through our campus community and take proactive steps to keep everyone as safe as possible,” stated Harrison. “Ultimately, it’s helping to protect our students and employees from the spread of COVID-19.”

Currently Milligan has three positive COVID-19 cases, all being employees. One positive test was announced Wednesday along with two more positive cases announced on Saturday.

At this time Milligan has zero positive cases for students and continues to proceed with the semester in caution, utilizing the Ascend web-software, temperature checks, social distancing and mask wearing.
Currently Miligan has three active COVID-19 cases. More information on Ascend and updates on COVID-19 can be found at milligan.edu/health.
