1. God is in control. There has never been a day that God did not have his hand grasping creation in his fingertips, and all that has come to pass has never been in the blindspot of God. Even the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ can be seen as far back in the garden where the old serpent caused our primordial parents to sin. As a student and child of God, know that you are secure in his hand. All of creation lies in the palm of God’s hand. As Psalm 135 says, “5 For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. 6 Whatsoever the Lord pleased, he did in heaven, and on earth, in the seas, and all deep places. 7 He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.”

  2. It is a period of change. Too often, we are kept in a standard cycle of routine that makes us feel safe. As students, however, we must take advantage of change and experience the blessing of it. Change allows for growth, improvement and quick decision making. Change allows for the real world to be presented in a new light and thus, there is new territory to overcome.

  3.  Rest is at hand. The semester is drawing to a close, and this week is the end of school for many students, some for the summer, others permanently. Even though many may have jobs to do over the summer, a time of rest from school is upon us. Just a little longer, and it will come to a close. No more papers, no more presentations and no more Zoom meetings, just simple living.

  4. A period of learning approaches. For some, it will continue in the form of internships, Graduate school or summer classes. But, this is still a blessing. Like before, it presents itself as a time of growth. A time to step out and learn new things. A time to gain experiences in the real world.

  5. A chance to say goodbye. Students who are graduating should feel blessed for completing the race they set out to accomplish years ago. Your college career is nearly done, and now you can move onto bigger and better things. Graduation will still be held at Milligan in the fall semester, but a new world is just around the corner.

  6. Time for family. Students get to spend more time with their families. Where time may have been spent far away for school, students can now spend it with their families or guardians and further bond with them during this unprecedented event.

  7. An option for better food. Students on campus can all agree that the cafeteria food is less than superb on certain days. Even though many places remain closed to the public, students can now have home-cooked dinners, food from their favorite places and even learning to cook becomes a possibility.

  8. Catching up on sleep is possible. We can now sleep a little better since online classes allow for flexibility not available before. We can even log into class two minutes before it starts after just waking up!

  9. Final Exams may not be that bad. With the adjustments that have occurred, some students will find their final exams open notes. Being able to use resources on finals can be seen as a blessing!

  10. Students live in a pivotal moment in history. It’s not a good one, but it is a pivotal one. Years from now, we will look back and tell of how we survived school amidst a pandemic. We are part of unprecedented history.
