Milligan hosted a trio of activities for students to participate in last week. MC Trivia Night and Ski Night both took place on Thursday night while Buffs Got Talent was Saturday.
Six teams participated in trivia according to Heather Jackson, director of student success and disability services, who was one of two hosts for the event. Heather Vaccaro, assistant professor of business administration, was the second host for the night.
The theme for February’s Trivia Night was Black History Month. It took place in SUB7 at 7:30 p.m., and the top two teams, Sugar Rush in first place and Bible Buffs in second, received gift cards.
Ski Night also took place Thursday evening. Campus Activities provided lift tickets for the first 15 students to sign up, and ski and snowboard rentals cost $21 and $30 respectively according to Jason Onks, director of campus activities.
Transportation in a Milligan van was also provided for the nine students who showed up. According to Onks, 18 originally registered to participate.
Buffs Got Talent rounded up the week of fun activities as students took to stage to showcase their various skills. Several students performed musical numbers and others tried their hand at stand-up comedy.
The show was in Gregory Theatre at 7:30 p.m. and admission was $1. Judges for the event were President Bill Greer and wife Edwina; Kristal Dove, assistant professor of business administration; and Curtis Booher, professor of Christian ministries.
Joseph Dykes, a high school senior who dual enrolls at Milligan, was the judge favorite for his passionate performance of an original piano score based on a science fiction novel he is currently writing. He wowed the judges by performing the piece completely from memory, and Booher even suggested he should pursue a career in music.
Freshman Mya Eury was voted the crowd favorite for her rendition of “Best Part,” by Daniel Caesar (feat. H.E.R.). She looked very comfortable on stage as she sang and clearly impressed both the crowd and judges.
Both Dykes and Eury won a $100 cash prize for their performances.
As these three activities closed out February, CAB is organizing more events for the future, including another trivia night and a beginner whitewater kayaking course.
