Students now have two new places in the area to get their coffee fix. Bebettes Beignets and Coffee and Still Waters Coffeehouse both recently opened for business.

Bebettes is located in Johnson City, about a 12 minute drive from Milligan’s campus, Still Waters Coffeehouse is located in Gray, approximately a 20 minute drive from campus, off of exit 13 on Interstate 26.

Bebettes features a uniquely decorated interior.

Bebettes is a small shop known for their New Orleans-style coffee and their beignets, according to their Facebook page. Older couples, families and people on work breaks gathered to try the new Johnson City addition. They opened on Jan. 28 and still had a buzzing crowd of customers around noon on Jan. 31.

The shop layout features an open kitchen style so customers can watch their coffee being prepared. One of the walls is decorated with a painted honeycomb pattern. There is a selection of sugars and honey at the counter where food and drinks are collected, and a small shelf of games, cards, etc. exists for customers who seek entertainment.

Still Waters is a larger location, offering a homey feel. Their customers on a Saturday morning consisted of some families and a few groups of college aged kids. The owners were also present along with their two small children who freely roamed the dining area, adorably interacting with guests and bringing smiles to their faces.

Still Waters Coffeehouse keeps it simple with their exterior sign.

Here workers alternate between calling out names and offering table side service depending on how busy they are.

The decor itself lends to a more rustic style with mix and match table and chair sets, a few arm chairs and several wall hangings. They also have a decent sized play area filled with children’s books and a chalkboard.

As for the coffee, both shops appear to satisfy customers.

“This coffee is unreal,” said Lauren Davies, Milligan freshman, after tasting her iced caramel latte from Still Waters.

Bebettes and Still Waters Coffeehouse seem to have been well received and are two popular new additions to the area.
