As part of homecoming weekend festivities, Milligan’s musical groups performed several songs from popular movies in Seeger Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 26. Performances featured the Women’s Chorale, orchestra, Herd Mentality, Heritage, Concert Choir and Guitar Ensemble.

The homecoming concert was open to audiences of all ages. Some of the songs performed included “Wonderful Life” from “Smallfoot,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme song, “Let it Go” from “Frozen,” “James Bond Theme,” “Ease on Down the Road” from “The Wiz,” “Colors of the Wind” from “Pocahontas” and others.

Fan-favorites were group collaborations. Songs performed by combined groups included: “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman,” and selections from “Les Miserables” and “A Thousand Years” from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.”

Amber Mitchell is a junior psychology major that performed with the Women’s Chorale and Concert Choir. Mitchell has been a member of both choirs for the past two years. Mitchell said she had a lot of fun preparing for this concert despite having to put in a lot of work inside and outside of class.

“I just love it,” Mitchell said. “Especially when we put the songs together with the orchestra for the first time. It sounded phenomenal to hear the finished product.”

The orchestra featured Riley Prickett as a soloist in “Moon River” from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Women’s Chorale featured choreography by Diane Taveau and Heather Allen during their performance of “Dancing Queen” from “Mamma Mia”.

During “Dancing Queen,” the Women’s Chorale also invited the audience to sing and dance along with the singers. The result left the audience smiling and laughing as they participated in the performance.

Sophomore early childhood development major Alexandra Reynoso attended the concert. She is also a member of Milligan’s Student Government Association. Reynoso said she attended the event because this year one of SGA’s goals is to make community through supporting each other at different events, and the theme interested her.

“Dancing Queen” was one of my favorite numbers because it was fun and upbeat,” Reynoso said. “I also really liked it when the orchestra played “Pirates of the Caribbean” because they did such a great job, and it reminded me of the Disney ride.”

If you enjoyed seeing the orchestra perform at “An Afternoon at the Movies” you can see them in concert again at “A Musical Zoo” on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Seeger Chapel.
