The Milligan Men’s Soccer Team beat Tennessee Wesleyan University 3-1 on Oct. 5 on Anglin Field.
TWU was ranked number one in the Appalachian Athletic Conference before the game, and they maintained their standing after. Milligan held onto a number six place ranking.
Milligan’s win broke TWU’s 11-game winning streak, and the Bulldogs have only had one other game this season with three goals scored against them.
Senior Roberto Fernandez Garrido scored twice in the game, earning the first and third points. The second, which took the lead over TWU, was made by sophomore Harry Griffin.
Garrido now leads the AAC with 14 goals scored this season. His first goal was scored from a penalty kick 15 minutes into the match.
TWU tied 1-1 with the Buffs in the 34th minute where Griffin scored shortly after to take the lead.
Milligan goalkeeper junior Jan Kuepper saved two goals, and the men outshot Tennessee Wesleyan 13-12 with 6-3 on shots on goal.
The student section of the stands was packed full of black and orange fans who cheered loudly after every score.
Following this match, the Milligan Men’s Soccer Team hosted again on 12 Oct. against St. Andrews University and won 4-0.
Milligan played again at home against Bluefield on 12 Oct. and won 5-0.
