Senior, Janae Rangel. Her photo exhibition is themed “Edges and Ledges.”

Senior photography minors started a week-long showcase of their portfolios at the art gallery of Derthick Hall. The exhibition slated to run April 7-12 features both film and digital photography from Janae Rangel, Samantha Steadman and Bethany Sodergren.

“My inspiration comes from the experiences I had last summer, making sure I notice the color and everything going on around me and trying to capture that,” said Janae Rangel.

“It’s also about making sure it’s portrayed to other people because a color is more than just color, it is also the feeling of everything that’s wrapped around you,” said Rangel.

Rangel’s exhibition is titled “Edges and Ledges” and features landscape photos of places like the Grand Canyon.

Fellow exhibitor Samantha Steadman talked about the challenges in putting the exhibit together. Her collection is themed “Sublime.”

“Since some of the pictures are from Italy, I printed them in centimeters, and I had to have everything custom-matted,” said Steadman.

Bethany Sodergren collection is titled, “Finding the Beauty in Zimbabwe.” She spoke about what she wants people to take from her work.

“There’s beauty everywhere, and it’s not hard to find, but it might not be in the places you expect,” said Sodergren.

“For me I found a lot of inspiration in the places I went and the people I met,

Sunday’s showcase had a mixture of  faculty, students, family members and people from the community. The works will be on display until April 12.
