This semester marked the launch of Milligan’s Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program. Along with the launch of this program, Milligan hired Dale Giblin, a graduate of Milligan College and East Tennessee State University. In regards to the position, he was first approached by Professor of Computer Information Systems and Business Administration Dr. Carolyn Carter and Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems Teresa Carter. “They asked me last October if I would come teach the undergrad courses,” Giblin said. “[T]hey had just gotten the new MSIS program approved and so they needed a new professor to teach the undergrad courses, so they approached me and asked me to apply.”

He grew up outside of Indianapolis in Avon, Indiana. When asked how he heard about Milligan before coming here as a student, Giblin said, “My mother is an alum, so that helps. My youth minister was also a Milligan alum, and there were a lot of people around me who had connections to Milligan.”

Giblin said that he had never originally planned on being a professor. However, he is looking forward to a project in his Server-Side Programming class. He says that his students “are building a blog from scratch.” Giblin thinks it will be a lot of fun, and he’s excited to see what they create. When asked what impact he would like to leave on his students, Giblin expressed his passion for the trade. “I love working with computers, especially writing programs and software. So, if I can share that with them, that would be good.”

When asked about what aspect of teaching has stood out to him most, he replied that he didn’t realize how much talking is involved and how strenuous that can be on your voice.

During his free time, he says he reads often, particularly sci-fi and fantasy novels. When asked his favorite author in these genres he replied, “It’s kind of tied between Brandon Sanderson and Jim Butcher, those are my two favorites at the moment.” When asked the controversial “Mac or PC” question: “It depends on what you are doing, I would say they are fairly even at this point (but) I use PC more often.”

Overall, he says he is excited to be here and that teaching will be a learning opportunity for him as well.
