The Milligan softball team continues to do extremely well at the Appalachian Athletic Conference, as their April 11th win against Union pushed them to tie for first place in the conference along with Truett McConnell University.

The first two innings started out slow, with neither team having any runs. However, the Buffs managed to get two hits in the bottom of the third inning, allowing junior Erica Roller to score the first run of the day.

The Buffs managed to get in another run in the next inning. Union responded by getting a run in the fifth inning, but a two-run home run hit made by freshman Morgan Overholser allowed the Buffs to finish on top with a final 4-1 score.

The action picked up in the second game, as freshman Neelee Griffith put a ball deep into right field, allowing Roller and sophomore Kirstan Beaver to make it home in the first inning. With incredible pitching by sophomore Jaclyn Jenkins leaving Union scoreless, the Buffs scored two more runs in the second inning and a whopping five runs in the third. The final score was 9-1, completely sweeping Union under the rug.

With these two wins, Milligan’s current record moves to 20-12 overall and 13-5 in the AAC, while Union got pushed to a 14-20 record and 12-6 in the AAC. Milligan is tied with Truett-McConnell University for the top spot in the conference standings, with them both at 13-5.

The next game for the Buffs is against St. Andrews University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
