The Mountain Movers Dance Company put on a show Friday, Feb. 2, in the Gregory Center. Mountain Movers preformed to a full house of faculty, students and members of the community.

Mountain Movers preformed a three piece act comprised of four dances. Each piece had a different theme. The first was called Having a Ball; second, Night into Light; and third, Timepiece. Each act had songs that matched the themes.

Senior production assistant Keila Lau-Lopez helped the Mountain Movers on show day. She has worked with ballet and modern dances before but has not worked with an aerial dance. However, she has worked with performances that required similar setups.

“The rigging was different,” Lau-Lopez said. “I have done rigging before but with different objects.”

Lau-Lopez also enjoyed the show.

“I liked that there was no set theme,” she said. “We got to see a variety of dances.”

Lau-Lopez also designed the poster and program for the event.

Junior Janae Rangel.

Junior graphic design major Janae Rangel had been to dance recitals before but nothing like this.

“It was not what I expected it to be,” she said. “It was cool to see the process.”

Rangel’s favorite act was the final, Timepiece.

“It had music I recognized, and I liked the dances that went along with it,” Rangel said.

Emmanuel students also joined in on the fun. First year grad student Sarah Knapton has seen dance recitals before and has seen some aerial dance on television. Her favorite part came from the second act.

“Seeing the solo on the hoop was my favorite part,” Knapton said. “The way the dancer was able to throw her body in a limited space was amazing.”

The crowd on Friday.

Knapton also liked the differences in the classical dances and modern dances.

Everyone interviewed would go back and would recommend it to a friend. However, they would recommend going early, as this event was packed.

The doors opened at 7 p.m., but by 7:10 it was hard to find a seat.

“I was surprised at the amount of community that showed up,” Rangel said. “It was great to see a variety of age groups there.”

The Mountain Movers were able to come to perform at Milligan thanks to the Milligan College Arts Council.
