The first My Two Words of the semester took place on Sept. 28 at 8:30 p.m. in Lower Seeger. It is a testimonial event where students give two words that describe the before and after of giving their lives to Jesus.

My Two Words creates an open atmosphere that the Apostolos club chairman, senior Abby Weinberger, describes as “only in the openness can we see the true healing.”

“We get to see beyond the image we have of people,” Brad Wallace, campus minister, said. “They’re people, assumptions dissolved.”

To attempt to simply sum up what seniors Mitchell Cole, JD McDonald and Rachel Simmons said during the event would be an injustice to them and what God has done in their lives. Some things are just better experienced firsthand.

Here are six reasons you should not miss the next My Two Words night.
  1. Students open their hearts to a room full of friends and strangers in hopes that they can help someone else.
  2. Nobody is perfect. My Two Words helps to breakdown the boxes we put people in and throw out false assumptions.
  3. It can be helpful to hear how others struggled with their faith but were able to make it out on the other side.
  4. You may begin to understand how life sometimes feels like when you “break a bone, and it comes back stronger,” as Cole explained.
  5. You can be reminded of the same lesson McDonald was: “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25).
  6. You will realize that other people struggle with the same problems and that you are “not an inconvenience and not a burden,” as Simmons put it in sharing about her battle with mental health.
