As the spring semester draws to a close, students, faculty and staff will have the chance to see the Milligan community express their talents through several events open and free to the public. Here are some of the upcoming events that will take place on campus:
Juried Art Exhibition (Sunday-Friday, April 23-28)
Come see art, photographs, sculptures and graphic design projects made by artistic Buffs throughout the week of the exhibit. The showcase will have kicked off with an opening reception on Sunday in lower Derthick Hall. The show itself will be open to view until Friday. The exhibition focuses on art projects from both semesters of the 2016-2017 school year.
Buffalo Tales (Thursday, April 27 – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
The Buffalo Tales, in its ninth year at Milligan College, consists of storytelling performances from two different sets of storytellers; the first set takes place at 4 p.m., and the second takes place at 7 p.m. Both will take place in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre in the Gregory Center.
Short Film Festival (Friday, April 28 – 6 p.m.)
On Friday Milligan College students will have the chance to see several short films created by their peers. The festival, in its 17th year, has become a campus tradition. This year, the event will take place at 6 p.m. in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre located in the Gregory Center. According to Professor Kenny Suit, who oversees the festival, there will be short films featured by students Collin Hawley, Colton Fenner, Tiffany Florian, Brent Doolittle, Becca Guthrie and Daniel Peacock, respectively. Some of the participants will be starring in their own films, and many of the short films featured will include screenplays written by the students.
Spring A Cappella Concert (Saturday, April 29 – 7:30 p.m.)
Milligan’s two a cappella groups, Heritage and Heard Mentality, will perform on Saturday in the Gregory Center at 7:30 p.m. Heritage, Milligan’s men’s and women’s ensemble, is directed by Noah DeLong, associate professor of music; Heard Mentality, Milligan’s men’s ensemble, is directed by Rachel Helton, instructor of music. This year’s concert will also include a special performance with Milligan’s Women’s Chorale, also directed by DeLong.
