Baseball

The Milligan baseball team is closing out their long season. Through 47 games, the Buffs are 22-25 with one three-game series left before the end of the regular season.  

Leading the way for the Buffs on the hitting side is Andrew Copas, who is hitting a batting average of .437 and has 15 RBIs. Also hitting well for the Buffs is Chris Patterson, who has a batting average of .351, 12 home runs and 39 RBIs. On the pitcher’s mound, Jacob Littleton leads with a record of 4-3, an era of 3.14 and 41 strikeouts for the Buffs.

The Buffs travel to Union College in Barbourville, Ky., today and Saturday in the last conference game of the season. The Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament starts on Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn.

Softball

The Milligan softball team has already started the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament with a win against Bryan College. Through 37 regular games, the Lady Buffs were 18-19.  

Leading the way for the Lady Buffs on the hitting side are Kristan Beaver, Rachel Coffey and Madison Grindstaff. Beaver has a batting average of .438 and seven RBIs. Coffey has reached 20 RBIs this season, has five home runs and has a batting average of .415. Grindstaff has nine RBIs this season and a batting average of .329. On the pitcher’s mound, Kimberly Robinson leads with a record of 13-5 and 104 strikeouts.

The Lady Buffs take on Union College in the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn., today at 1 p.m.

Men’s Tennis

Milligan’s men’s tennis team has a 4-14 record and a conference record of 0-7 this season.

Leading the way for the Buffs are Conly Shults, Will Blackmarr and Daniel Peacock. For this season, Shults has an overall record of 6-9, Blackmarr has an overall record of 3-9 and Peacock has an overall record of 4-10. Shults and Blackmarr lead the Buffs in doubles with an overall record of 4-7.

The Buffs take on Reinhardt University today at 2 p.m. in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.  

Women’s Tennis

Milligan’s women’s tennis team has a 8-11 record and a conference record of 4-4 this season.

Leading the way for the Lady Buffs are Lexie Hill, Minda Martin and Abigail Allen. For this season, Hill has an overall record of 11-7, Martin has an overall record of 10-9 and Allen has an overall record of 6-10. Hill and Allen lead the Lady Buffs in doubles with an overall record of 9-7.

The Buffs take on Bluefield College today at 2 p.m. in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Women’s Golf

The Milligan women’s golf team will travel to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on May 19 to participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship from May 23- 26.

The Lady Buffs gained entry to the National Championship by winning the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Direct Qualifier on April 18 in Pine Mountain, Ga. Cassidy Gibson won the tournament with a combined 36 hole score of 147 (70-77).

Competing for the Lady Buffs in the NAIA National Championship will be Cassidy Gibson, Ann Sullivan, Megan Gaylor, Michaela Matheson and Sarah Son. Coaching the Lady Buffs for the NAIA National Championship will be Tony Wallingford, who won the AAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year for the fourth time.
