The Milligan Agriculture Club will be hosting a garden party right before finals on Friday at 6:30 p.m. It is being referred to as “That Big Garden Party.”
The event will be a dessert potluck-style event, hosted around the garden located behind the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The party will include contra dancing and live folk music. Seating will be limited, so students are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on for the event.
Rising senior Brianna Tuscani, volunteer coordinator of the Agriculture Club, said the party will emphasize community, a value the club hopes the garden will represent for Milligan students.
“I think our goal for the club is to be more than a club for a certain group of students but a collective for all of the Milligan community to participate in and benefit from,” Tuscani said.
The Agriculture Club’s long term goal is to provide a sustainable and successful food source for campus needs.
“We would also love to eventually partner with the community and be able to provide not only for ourselves but for the outside community,” Tuscani said.
Tuscani said she also wants students to make a connection between gardening and their faith.
“As we are called to look beyond ourselves and our own needs as Christians,” she said, “we need to be on the front lines of responding to the needs of those around us; a key component to living out this call is tending to the resources we have been freely given (by God).”
The Agriculture Club hopes That Big Garden Party increases future interest in the club to help sustain the garden for a long time.
“The event is to get our communal ‘focus and grassroots feel’ kicked off!” Tuscani said.
Don’t forget to “turnip” with your favorite dessert and have a great time at That Big Garden Party on Friday.
