Derrick Minor, a computer science major at Milligan College, is creating “Buff 360°,” a new app he hopes to release by the end of the semester.

“I’m designing something for Milligan to give quick access of information for students and faculty,” said Minor.  “Mostly, my target is students.”

And the app might make students’ lives a little easier, giving users relevant information about the Milligan campus and community.

“It’s going to have a campus map, so it’s going to be great for new students,” said Minor.  “It’s also going to include some community aspects, so people know what happened and what’s coming up.”

Milligan had an app on the market that was free for download, however, that app is currently no longer listed in the Apple store. The previous app displayed information such as campus hours, contact information and a calendar. Minor said he’d like to “implement these” in his app, but also “tweak them a bit.”

The tweaking could involve adding in a search bar so that students could easily access contact information for Milligan’s faculty and staff.

Minor is the sole creator of the app, however, he has been open to receiving advice from his professors regarding the app.

“This is an application that will enrich student life,” said Teresa Carter, an associate professor of computer information systems.  “It will soon be available for students to try and assess.”

Minor plans on adding more features to the app once it’s released.  Buff 360° will “hopefully” launch be by the end of the semester and will be available for both Android and Apple phones.

“The main idea I like about (the app) is that it’s student-created and student-fed,” said Minor.  “That way it has everything the students want on it.”
