On Nov. 5, the Cross Country Buffs traveled to Black Mountain, North Carolina, where they competed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship at Montreat College.

The top result from the meet was Hannah Segrave, who not only won her race by a whopping 19 seconds in front of her SCAD Atlanta competitor with a time of 17:53.3, but also won for the second year in a row AAC Runner of the year.

Senior Taylor Tafelsky was right behind Segrave in titles as he finished his close race with second overall and a time of 26:18.1, helping the men to win the AAC championship meet.

The AAC Championships were not just a showcase of our senior buffs talents, but also a showcase of the new talent that came to Milligan College this year. Freshman Mitch Bronstetter finished in fourth place, only 18 seconds behind Tafelsky. Sam Wehner followed in 13th place, helping out the men’s team to win the championships with another top 15 finish.

Katlyn Haas secured a top 15 position as she placed 11th in the women’s race.

As the AAC awards were announced after the race, Milligan had many stand outs that were recognized for their hard work this season.

The men’s team had great results as Tafelsky, Bronstetter and Brandon Ellis all made the All-Conference team, with freshmen Bronstetter and Wehner also qualifying for the All-Freshman team.

The women’s team also had great results as our AAC champion Hannah Segrave took home Runner of the Year. Sarah Kate Gartman, JJ Robinson and Amber Grello made the All-Conference team, while Haas qualified for the All-Freshman team.

Head coach Chris Layne was recognized as the AAC Coach of the year for the second year in a row.

Both teams will finish their fall seasons at the NAIA National Championship meet at Principia College, St. Louis, in two weeks time.
